A background pegasus pony that has gained notoriety and popularity after her appearance in the first episode with (possibly accidental) cross-eyes. Fandom has characterized her as a mail delivery pony who loves muffins.

Her name was at first a fan creation until the episode "The Last Roundup," in which Rainbow Dash addresses her as simply "Derpy." It is unknown if the production team recognizes the "Hooves" part of her name or not. The name, however, has been taken out of the first DVD release of Friendship is Magic.

The production team of Friendship is Magic has stated that from the second season on, the character's appearance would be a sort of Where's Waldo? gimmick for fans of the show to spot each episode.
